this is gonna serve as my dd as well as tow rig for my jeep.
i love the truck drives great and has plenty of power for my dd needs.
i just dont know a thing about these trucks
like, what is the typical gearing?
how are the auto trannys? and what kind are they?(this truck is a 4 speed auto and it shifts gears really quick and firm)
what are the typical things that go wrong?
any input you guys can give me for a first time diesel buyer would be great

E4OD is a good trans if treated with respect, if yours has never been upgraded to 94+ specs there may be problems down the road. If the original label is on the trans it's probably OEM
Check to see if the PO has used SCAs in the coolant and test strips...... you can google most everything and get answers.
The most typical thing that has been going wrong is: "extended cranking and getting worse" This (3/4 of the time) is the fuel return lines between the injectors gets brittle and lets air in but no fuel leak. This will cause the fuel to drain back to the fuel tank. Look between the injectors--- see if the hoses between them are painted "gray" if they are -replace the whole return line system when you can. this will save you a headache later when you are busy or really need to get somewhere.
Hope this helps - but just enjoy, keep the oil changed and use a good fuel.
