Winches

Anybody got one. I'm looking at the Warn hidden winch kit. Comes with a 9000lb winch. All for 1700.00cdn. I was contemplating one that attaches to a front receiver but I'm worried about ground clearance. Here's the link.

your truck wieghs about 5500# dry...the 9000 lb winch won't be enough to pull you out if you truly get stuck. that is also assuming you can get the line unwrapped enough to be only pulling with one layer of wire on the winch drum. the more wire wraps you have, the less pull capacity you have.

a good rule of thumb when winching is to have at least 2x the pull capacity of the wieght of what you're pulling. I had a Warn 9500HS on my Bronco that I absolutely loved.

look at a nice 12,000 or 15,000 if you're going to spend the money.

other than that, the picture in that link looks very nice. I'd put one on my truck if I had the money.

just happened to see a front receiver in a catalog tonight it looks like it fits in the same space the winch from your link does not under the truck if thats what you meant when you mentioned clearance. i like the clean appearance of that winch as long as the cable clears the truck from different angles.seems like i never can find anything to anchor my atv to directly in front of it when its stuck.the atv has a warn winch and been very happy with it.

I kinda figured 9000lbs was a little low. But it's the biggest I can fit under the bumper. I don't want it so visable, and it's a pain having to mount a huge 160lbs winch to the front end every time I get stuck. I might as well use a big come along like I usually do. Thanks for the replies guys.

9000 lbs would work if you had a ****** block (pulley) but I agree... for that much money I would want to make sure it was going to get me out.
