my brother just bought an 88 ranger ext cab 4x4 2.9/5sp. he wants to go with a 31x10.50 or maybe 33x12.50 tires. what kind of lift would it take to run either tire?? suspension and/or body lift. and i don't know if he'd be willing to cut his truck or not, but i used to have bushwacker cutouts on a 78 f150 that allowed me to run 36's with only a 3'' body lift.
if you were going to do a lift, I would go with a sl before a bl any day. But budget also comes into play. You probably could have searched and found your answer a lot faster, but I don't care......you will probably need to do a sl to fit those tire on, but I don't really know
Body lifts can cause allignment problems and the gaps look crappy. A 88 ranger 4x4, 5-speed, thats my dream project truck. 2" -3" should get you on 31's and 4" for 33's. 2" should work for 31's where as 3" would give you a lot more flex. 4" for 33's, but you will need to trim the fenders to get more flex, as for hard core, or extreme wheeling. For light wheeling or show, it should be fine. Without doing a gear swap, 31's and a 3" lift would work great and look good. 31's should have 4:10 gears and 33's sould have 4:56 gears. Without the proper gears, your power and mpg will suffer, the bigger the tire, the more it will suffer. I don't know what your stock gear is, but I would stay with 31's to be safe and that still may hurt if your geared high, like 3:27's or something. Hopefully, you at least have 3:73's or at the worst, 3:54's.
