1997 front shocks

1997 front shocks
I have a 1997 F150 173,000 miles 4.6 L. I have had two right front shocks blow out? the first time I replaced them the ones the sold me from Autozone where to short. I had to get them from Advanced Auto Parts. Is there a longer shock or something I can do to prevent this from happening? Thanks for any help!
