speedometer

The speedometer on my 78 f350 works sometimes not, I'm thinking its the gear. Someone told my its prolly the gear inside transmission, how hard is it to change?? When it does work its not correct. I have also noticed when the truck has a load it works. Thanks By the way it is a 4 speed

I don't know what it is, thats what i'm asking! The speddo has already been changed!!

could be a broken cable, but I dunno about the gear inside the tranny

Pull the cable out of the tranny and see what the plastic gear looks like. The dealer still stocks them, just tell them how many teeth are on yours and which angle that they are, or better yet, take the old one with you. They aren't very much.

OK, I found that the gear is bad on the end of the cable. I thought there should be a clip to hold it on, is there spuossed to be one? Is this a dealer part? Thanks

Yes there should be a special slide on clip to hold it on.

Dennis you have a picture for just about every part on these trucks don't ya?

The clip pictured above retains the plastic gear on the end of the speedo cable.
