iI am working on a 1948 f1, with a camero front suspension . Instastalling a 351 (moderately modified = cam, headers, new intake,etc) and a c6 transmission.
I modified the original trans. support to fit the c6. Yesterday i removed the bed and cab. now with just 4 wheels, a frame and 351 & c6 with supports; don't know if the transmission support is enough. the original support was for a manual tran and a lot less hp. Anybody want to advise?
The stock cross member in my truck ('92 F-150 302 manual trans) runs from side to side just on top of the bottom of the frame and there are braces that go from a point about 6" inside the frame on the x-member to the top of the frame. It seems to stiffen both the frame and x-member. With what you have for torque I would think you'd want at least the equivalent.
thanks for the advice, gustang818. this afternoon I started making another, stronger
trans. support. It helps to be able to see it better with the cab off.
