big problem...

big problem...

a buddy of mine put the battery cables on backwards and now nothing electrical works at all. said that the starter solenoid smoked and thats when he took the cables off. have a bad feeling the main harness is going to be fried. truck is a 1986 F-150. any usefull info will be greatly appreciated.

I would check the fuseable link.Just about all fords(from way back to now) have a fuse link type of wire in the main power line. You also might want to change the solenoid,just to be safe. Just my $.02

pbjohns is right on.
The solenoid would be OK, the smoke you saw from the solenoid would be from the fuse link burning that hooks to the battery side of the solenoid. Just replace the fuse link is all you need to do, we just had another poster that had the same thing happen to him and that is what it was.
