bed wood resto

Im getting ready to pull the wood out of my bed to refinish (winter project). Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, short cuts, recommendations, etc. I know I have to take out about 50 nuts & bolts to get the wood out. Can I lift the bed slightly and slide the boards out the back? Do I have to pull the entire bed off?? How is this done???

Thanks in advance

I don't remember having to take the bed off. If you take the metal strips out of the middle, they should come out ok. The bed is not very heavy if you have to move it around a little.

Dave:

I removed the bed boards on my '51 for refinishing and assume a '54 would be similar. I think you could remove one board at a time and leave the bed attached to the frame. Because the bed attaches to the frame by means of bolts through the bed boards and braces, though, removing all the boards at once will require that the bed be either jacked up or removed.

BTW: plan on replacing all the hardware.
