LIGHTS & HORN at SAME TIME

Good morning everyone, This weekend i finally installed my sound system myself...works marvelous.....

Now the question that i've always had:

Is it possible to hook my two offroad lights to my horn through a relay....In order for when i honk my trains....the offroad lights turn on?

thanks let me know....i believe a relay might do the job but.....hmm horn is different volts than lights....

hmmm :-\ help!

thanks let me know. F250 SD 2005, crew cab 5.4L

Are you sure you are not looking at the rated amperage or wattage?

The negative from the horn would go to frame ground. You could put a switch on eithe lead of the horn (+ or -) as a cut off, depending on which was easier.

Only thing to watch for is exceeding the amperage rating of any fuse or relay presently in the horn circuit. If the fuse for the horn is 10 amps and the horn draws 3, then your lights cannot exceed 7 amps. Each device in the horn circuit will have to be evaluated to see if it will be safe for this use.

As an alternative a secondary relay for the lights, powered by the horn lead, may be a better idea.

It would actually be pretty easy to do this w/a normal 12V 30A SPST Bosch style relay. First a quick point: The good news is that both the lights and horn are 12V. The bad news is they're different polarities. The horn trigger wire is 12V-, the lights are 12V+, but this isn't a problem.

How to wire it:
1. Find the correct wires. I believe the horn wire is a Blue wire at the steering column. I have no idea what your 12V+ input wire for the lights is. Test ALL wires with a DMM to be sure.

Relay Terminals:
30,86- Wired together to a fused 12V+ source
85- Horn wire (12V-), wire a toggle switch in-line with this wire to activate/deactivate this mod.
87- Off-Road Lights 12V+ wire
