Load range E to D (SAFELY?)
Load range E to D (SAFELY?)
I'm in need of new tires for my truck (2003 F250 CC 4x4 8ft bed and no mods).
I can get the BF Goodrich A/T KO's in load range D (265/75R16).
Can I SAFELY run a load range D tire instead of a E??
I don't haul anything heavy at all. I don't have a need to tow either. And don't plow snow.
Thanks for any replies and happy holidays.

People do it all the time. Is it safe? Depends on who you talk to and how you use your truck. In your case because you are not towing or hauling stuff it should not be an issue. The other thing to consider is that some "D" rated tires have the same load range as the SD's "E" rated tires so then it wouldn't be an issue at all.

Yes, a D is usually rated for 3K. So 3k x 4 tires = 12,000 GVW rating. More then enough for an empty truck or one not towing, especially a gas truck as you probably only weight about 7,500 pounds.. Plus, you might get slightly better gas mileage too.
