King Pin ?

I just installed a kingpin kit on my 1977 2wd F150 and I have a question regarding the proper use of the shims provided in the kit. First of all I put the shims on the top side of the I-beam kingpin mounting hole, is this correct?
I ended up using two shims on the drivers side and I had no up and down play in the spindle, but on the passenger side I ended up with 4 shims to remove all the up and down play in the spindle. Three shims and I still had some up and down play, but four shims seems little tight. I am wondering if I should remove one of the shims and sand it down a little bit, so that the PS spindle moves as smooth as the DS spindle. Do you think that once the truck is driven a bit it will loosen up a bit on its own?

Define tight?
When installed can the spindle be rotated without much resistance?
If too tight I would hand lap one of the thicker shims on a sheet of sandpaper.
Once your assembled and on the ground the thrust bearing will seat better in the beam and spindle allowing for more clearance. I would rather have it snug than loose. Lube on a regular schedule.

It's really not too tight, just a little tighter than the other side, so I think I'm going to leave it as it is. Thanks.

I bet it will turn free at the end of the first day of driving.
