Ebay 545 stroker kit

So I was checking out ebay and came across this stroker kit. Anyone know if it is any good? What else would a guy need to make this work on a 460? Heads? Intake and exhaust? Stuff like that?

Here is the ebay number.

Seems kinda cheap but is a cast crank but the rods are the weak link in most 460's so the h-beams are nice. Not sure on the clearancing issue. I got my 514 as a short block so was already done for me. Never dealt with that company myself so can't say much about them. You'd have to have some decent heads to feed that many cubes.

go for it :-) thats the stroker kit im putting together for my 545... im going flat tops because im going propane, but youll need the dished pistons for pump gas... and its not actually required to do anything to the engine besides the .030 overbore, but heads, headers, and a good cam, carb and intake are definitely recommended

Sweet deal darrin. You will have to keep a guy posted with how yours works out, I love the price of it, and I think it appears to be half assed decent quality stuff.

my engine will take quite awhile to finish... i just bought a very expensive cam and lifters for it today, went to a hydraulic roller retrofit cam and lifters from crane- best price i found was at www.sdpc2000.com at $339 for the cam and $429 for the lifters. they also happen to be the place i bought my crank from for $360 about 2 months ago- same crank thats in that kit- only without the internal balancing- which im having done locally later. if i had more credit limit on my credit cards i would totally buy that rotating assembly- it would be well worth it for the money, but im broke so i have to order my stuff piece by piece as i get the money to do so- also as stated in the ad- no clearancing issues with a 545... if it were a 454 chevy youd have to go get a tall deck truck block or aftermarket block, and have it seriously ground for clearance for a stroker- but on a 460 all you do is bolt it in and go
also theyre an fte sponsor so you cant go wrong there

By the looks of the ad, I would say they are able to back up what they sell and have the knowledge to steer you in the right direction. It seems that they definitely have more credentials than most any other vendor that you would buy something like that from.

i got the same one... but ill have 31 ci on ya, and ill be running 13-1 static compression i figure itll idle pretty good with the increased compression and displacement... going with blue thunder heads when i get the money for them... i figure i should have the engine done in about 6 months... my new years resolution is to get my truck done completely

Thats not a bad price, and bieng as it's balanced not a bad deal at all. (although I would be one to have it rechecked just for safety sake but that shouldn't be too expensive, the expensive part of balancing is the mallory and they say it's already got that)
Some one mentioned the cast crank, nothing wrong with them at all for most applications, I am running a cast crank at over 900hp and it's lived 2 seasons so far and has 1 more to go before I get a new engine together and it's not worrying my at that level so on street vehicle I don't see a problem with them.

Wow, 900hp on cast crank. Anything special done to it? What kinda rpms do you turn with it?

I was unlucky and got one of the early crate 514's with the older SCJ heads and truck rods. They now come with h-beams and revised heads for more horses. I only run the 9.5-1 compression and its still a beast on the street. Of course the 3" dumps don't help either. I know my 514 uses the later model 12.5 oz? balance on the crankshaft. Can't believe they have balanced with malory and its still that cheap.

Nothing special done to it, I shift at 7400rpm, rev limit is set at 8000. I don't expect it to live forever which is why I am building a new motor (well that and I want more hp) and I never use nitrous which helps motors live.

yep... nos is hard on everything... even engines built for it it will wear out quickly, same with forced induction... youre better off building a really big naturally aspirated engine if you want stability and longevity

I just ordered "Kit N" off E-bay so I'll let you all know how it turns out. It's going 557 (.080/4.44") bore with 6.8" rods and a 4.5" stroke. My compression should be 10.96:1 so fuel shouldn't be too much of a problem. I figured if I'm going to do it right, I'll go all the way. I'm paying for the forged H-beam rods, forged steel crank (internally ballanced), and forged dished pistons. Horspower should be in the neighborhood of 1000 without nitrous or a blower. All this in a street legal '94 F-150 with a tunnel ram and 33x21.5 Mickeys. The only problem now is determining which roller cam to go with.

before you order the .080 pistons you have to have the block sonic tested to see if itll bore that far. i would just get a 545 kit (.030 over)
