New to X world...Excursion vs Expedition
#16
my advice is get the excursion you wont be let down . if you can find a 2wd get that (softer ride tighter turning radis) you only need 4x4 if you are going to go mudding or go realy far into the back country . if you need 4x4 you probibly shouldnt be there with this big of a truck . if you want a wifes advice let me know and ill have here send you an email . as far as parking in a mall moove further away from the store opening ( walk alittle further) and you wont have any problims me i take up 2 spots unless its totaly crouded but even then you just park next to other realy expensive vheicals and the truck willl be fine . we live in seattle and you would have fun driving an ex around that city :0)

Did you have your Excursion custom built ? Reason I am curious, is you say YOUR Excursion is a 3/4 ton. Since, to my knowledge Ford did not build a 3/4 ton Excursion, would like to know more about yours.
I parked my Excursion next to my neighbor's 1 ton, and wasn't able to find any parts differences in the running gear except for the springs and shocks.
Perhaps someone who actually knows what they are talking about, AND HAS A FORD PARTS BOOK, could set us all straight on this.

My wife drives our X every day. Before we got the X we had an expedition. She really liked it and it took me three years to get here to let me by the X. We bought it in 2003 and this last summer when I said something about maybe down sizing I thought I was going to have to find somewhere to live. At first she didn't like the size but after driving it for a few months she was fine with it.
PS - I'd had her say something but she is at work.

Ya know that 3/4, 1 ton moniker is from the waaaaaaaaaaay old days when it actually meant something. There was a time when it was the actual payload. That didn't last for long as trucks got stonger but the moniker has stuck after all these years.
However, if folks wanna "badge" them based on payload...well then NO 4x4 Excursion has a 1 ton capacity. And as corniceman said above. All Excursions can be considered "3/4 ton" trucks.
The 6.0L 4x4 Excursion payload is only around 1500lbs!!! The least of all configurations. Making it a TRUE 3/4 ton.

When I did a nationwide search and pulled all 2002 Limited 4X4 7.3L Diesels for sale by private parties (only taking into consideration those X's that were stock - no mods), the average asking prices was $24.5k (with an average of 81k for miles). It is exactly what I am looking for as far as color and model.
I know the KBB can be off as they pull some of their figures based on what is reported by the DMV. A lot of PP sellers will place a lower selling price on the pink so the buyer does not have to pay as much in sales tax. This of course also hurts on the back end when you total your car and you are attempting to pursued your insurance company that your car is worth more than the KBB....
$26k is KBB for a dealer, I think the seller is confused about which KBB pricing to use and I am attempting to clarify with them.
BTW, we went and looked at Expy's last night and I think I have the SO convinced not to get one......
