Quick ? on Dealer SOP for plug changes

Hi all, it's been awhile. I got a Mustang but kept the Expy for the winter and I've been lurking.

Quick question for anyone in the know--I had all 8 plugs changed in my '01 EB a couple weeks ago at the dealership. I knew I had a code on cyl #4 for misfire and with 130,000 miles, I was pretty sure it was the COP. Still, the plugs needed changing so I had them do that job. Today, I got around to installing the new #4 COP myself (holy crap that's a tight space!) and the truck runs great again. But I did notice that there was NO dielectric grease inside the old COP wiring connector or at the plug end of it and now I am wondering if either they porked me and didn't even change that plug, or if they were just lazy and didn't put the grease in after installing the new plugs?

Is it standard operating procedure at Ford to apply dielectric grease to the COP fittings when changing spark plugs? If it is, I'll be bringing it back for the job to be done correctly. If it's not part of the plug change procedure, then I'll just accept that, lame as it is.

AFAIK its per the technicians choice. If he wants to risk a comeback for a misfire he can leave them dry. Most experienced techs will do it just for that reason. There is no requirement however.

I know that I've never put dielectric grease on any plugs when I've done them and haven't had a problem.

Dealerships want something like $300 to change the plugs. The job really isn't that hard and can definately be tackled in an afternoon with the right tools.

No doubt, but I do have to say that while I once never would have imagined I would have a dealer change my spark plugs, today after replacing the COP on cyl. #4, I'm glad I did. I couldn't see into the hole at *all* when putting the new rubber boot down into it. I did it all by feel/touch. With my luck if I were changing plugs I wouldn't have seen some debris in there and would have dropped some into the cylinder hole, and the rest would have been history.
