Unhappy Intake question

Returned my truck to a stock air intake set up after hearing all the talk about dusting the motor. I ran an aftermarket set up for 18K and worry that I caused damage. The truck runs great and I have no problems to date, but I worry that somthing may be lurking around the corner due to the air intake being on for such a long period. Like I siad I returned it back to a stock set up, but I wanted to see if I should worry ? Any comments would be nice

I have had an AEM intake on for about 10k miles. On another post, I was asked to pull it and see if there was dust on my intake tube. I finally got a chance to pull it off, and checked the tube and there was no dust at all. I am thinking of switching to the afe intake just as a safety precaution, but would like to hear some more thoughts on what brands people are running and if they find dust in the tube.

Greenfilter intake system. I take the tube off once in a while to check for dusting in the tube, and pitting on the turbo blades. Clean as a whistle, no pitting or sandblasting.

used a MAC cold air set up with K&N filter. There was dust in the intake tube when I removed it and put the stock set up back, but I could not see anything on the turbo itself

Reave1,

Ok here's the first thing you have to do, NOT check the intake tube you
re wasting your time. It is smooth, dry and no dirt will stick to it!! Pull the rubber bellows at the vavle cover mount on a 7.3 and because they have a crankcase vent there will be a collection of oil there that will collect some of the dirt that gets by, on a 6.0 you can wipe grease on the tube and it will catch dirt that gets by. All this said any 4 layer filter will pass a large amount of dirt, the dry flow filters that have been tested can as will or if they use enough media to stop the dirt they are restrictive (although I have info that a new type is in production and should flow air and still stop dirt).

If you want an intake thay flows a lot of air but stops the dirt the AFE Stage II Mega system in Pro Guard 7 will do it for you. If you have any questions just call us.

i ran a k&n on my 2006 ps for 12k, it let dirt pass thru it, also it dusted the turbo, i reinstalled the factory setup, and sent that k&n junk back to k&n and got a refund from them, i might try the afe that mark is talking about when i order the 4" cat back exhaust from dppi.............
