My Speedo

I have an 83 F-150. I have noticed of late that the speedo is displaying a speed that is much less than the vehicle is traveling. The other day the kids was following me and said they had to go seventy to keep up with me jet the speedo indicated I was going about fifty-five mph. Sounds like a problem.

What is your best guess. The cable or is it the speedo head. If it is the later, well then where to you get another dash assembly?

I would lubricate the cable and see if that helps.

Look at the saftey certification lable and check the stock tire size. If you are running over sized tires, that will make your speedometer off.

And just a thought and idea, The 90's F-600's and better have a electronic speedometer head that would fit in our clusters by changing the backing plastic. I was wondering about modifying it to one of our trucks. They are only 80MPH and have 100,000 mile increments instead of 10,000, but other than that they are identical in looks to ours. If it were possible it would do away with the cable completely. Do not know if it would work or not however. In theory it should, but you know.
