power windows

power windows

any thoughts?

2002 superduty 250 power windows will not work, also at the same time the windows broke the radio would not turn on. Radio has power but won't turn on. Map lights are also not working but courtesy light does. Checked all the fuses, bulbs, etc but that didn't help.

Could be as simple as the window switches not working. Or it was a freak thing and both your window motors decided to crap out in sequence. Not sure about the radio though. I would say fuse but it seems that theory has already been disproven.

I would check the other forums. I have an Excursion but find alot more info by jumping around.

Was anything done to the truck just before the windows, lights and radio stopped working?

A Big Sky rack was installed to the roof portion inside the Super Cab. The rack is screwed into the inner liner above the Super Cab windows. Spoke to Ford Servcie they didn't believe there was anything in that portion of the inner liner that would cause the window/radio failure.

OK, it sounds like the gun rack instalation may have severed a wire going to the dome light. I dont have a wiring diagram, but I'd be willing to bet the windows, dome light and radio are on the same fuse or relay OR they utilize a common ground through the dome light.

It could be that the battery saver relay in the instrument cluster has gone bad. I have seen these shorted out overloading them with new accessories too. One man brought his truck in after wiring in some bed lights and sure enough the relay was toast so somewhere along the line whatever they really did to the truck they surged the power and blew out the relay. On one this old it may have just failed as some relays will over time. I really was POed when I discovered they soldered relays into the cluster like that knowing how many relays I replace each year. They do this also in the wiper moter assy, and now they put them in the fuse box and call them SMART BOX! Nothing smart about having to replace the fuse box when a relay fails if you ask me. They are soldered into the cluster circuit board and the only way to replace it is with a new cluster/reman cluster from Ford.
