dont get me wrong i have a very quiet truck and am completely pleased. these rattles occur on rough roads. one is the ashtray i know others have had this issue, and the other is both front door panels in the REAR armrest area. i havent had any time to spend with it so i was lookin for a quick idea. hopefully i get a chance soon to look at it.
Basically you put foam tape on the pins on the bottom of the ashtray module. I did this and haven't heard a rattle since.
I then attempted to fix my front door rattles. I took off both door panels and then tightened the bolts that hold the arm rests to the door panels. Also I found that most of my noise was a "creaking" noise rather than a rattle, concentrated near the bottom corners of the door panels. The outer edege of the plastic door panel "creaks" against the inner metal door. So I sprayed silicone lubricant on the inside edge of the plastic door panel as well as on the metal inner part of the door too. So far, it has been much quieter.

i took the panels off and widend the cips becuase since i had taken them off twice they were kinda small so whenever i would go over ANY bump the rear doors would rattle, after fixing the clips they are still better but ill try what SteveVFX4 did with the silicone lubricant and hopefully that will help
Thanks, Great Help Steve. You Know I Pay Huge Money As An Independant Shop To Alldata And I Could Not Find That Tsb Anywhere I Just Looked Yesterday, Really Freakin P's Me Off. As For The Doors Thats My Exact Noise More Creaky Than Rattle. I Think Im Gonna Get Some Felt Tape And Run It All Along The Door Panel. Now To Find Time To Do This Crap.
No problem. Someone posted that TSB on another forum. If you push on your door panel near the bottom corner, you should notice the creaking. yeah, Felt tape might work better long-term because the lubricant spray will eventually dissolve and the creak will come back I'm guessing.
That is it exactly. On the f150 there are many many edges where there is metal to plastic or plastic to plastic rubbing. To fix the rattles and creaks these surfaces either need to be isolated from each other with foam or rubber, - I have even used Velcro. Or they need to be periodically tightened so there is little to no movement between the two. And or finally, using silicone spray on the edges helps to keep them quiet. Make sure you check the plastics for colorfastness and stability before you spray them with silicone otherwise you might not like what you end up with.
I have a squeak also but not in the doors like you guys where talking about or even the ashtray. It's by the A-pillar on the passengers side. I'm reluctant to spray anything as it might discolor the plastic, but do I have any other options. I can't make the plastic squeak by hand. It seems to only happen when driving and you need to be going over 35 mph. Might even be coming from around the firewall. I can't really pinpoint it other than it's the passenger side A-pillar area.
