Suspension Alteration

I have A 55 F-100 I am trying to build in a late 50's early 60's style and I don't want to Use IFS, What Is the easiest method to obtain a slight drop 2"-3"without hampering drivability? How were the vehicles lowered in the 50's-60's , front and rear suspension ? Thanks for any advice.

I should have said that dropped axles were a popular method for the front. Longer shackles and taking a leaf out will work in the back.
