I need to replace the bracket that holds the spring and shock, It is the drivers side front on a 1992 ford explorer. Looks like it has 4 rivets holding it on.
I was driving about a month or so ago and hit a bump in the road, I heard a loud crack noise come from the front of the truck. When i got to where I was going I checked it out and found the bracket where the spring and shock are had a large crack in it.
I gently road home and took the wheel off and found a one inch gap between the bracket where it broke. I was able to pry the bracket back together and weld the crack and plated it with some 1/8 inch plates.
I checked the passenger side and it's fine, I bought it used yrs ago so I am thinking something must of happened to cause this bracket to fail. I had to repaint the drivers side fender because it faded and the pin stripping doesn't exactly match the drivers door.
If anyone knows where I can order this bracket let me know and if anyone has replaced it if you can relay your experience to me I would appreciate it.
When folks do a solid axle swap in the front they remove the stock coil boot/shock mount and install seperate new stand alone mounts. You might do a search on the SAS for the Explorer and see if folks have the old ones laying around. If you can't find them on your own send me an e-mail and I'll try to get you headed in the right direction.
