I am modernizing a '50 F1 for a customer. I read somewhere here about using a Dodge Caravan rear wiper motor. I dug a '93 one out of my core pile and it looks like a nice swap. The "snout" s almost the perfect length. I have a few questions that maybe someone who has done this one can answer. 1) Are the 2 wires hot and ground; or hi, lo and it grounds through the case? 2) Looks like you have to enlarge the opening in the cowl slightly. Did you experience this? and 3) Using the stock Dodge bracket, swapping sides, and cutting it down looks possible. Did you have to turn it any particular way for clearance? Thanks for any help.
I don't recommend this swap, but just in case someone comes back to this later here are some notes:
1) Use an '80s motor, they are smaller
2) Wires are blue=run, brown=park, grounds through case
3) Motor must be mounted so that end of motor is straight down, use old bracket for a template.
4) It is hard to get the left screw into the dash with the motor bolted to the bracket.
5) Must grind down motors "snout" or enlarge cowl opening.
6) This installation is not as clean as I would like because you cannot recess the motor far enough to make the end protrude as much as it should. I am going to do something different.
