Problems with my 4WD...
This is my first post, lots of great info! I have a 01 F350 long bed crew cab and I'm having some trouble with the 4wd. When I enaged the switch the front end really starts "talking to me" especialy the faster I go. I rarley use it for this reason, only when it is totally needed. Any thoughts on what may be going on and how much it will cost me?
Secondly, there is times when I park the truck and try and start it the next day I have to lift the shifter in order for it to start. I'm guessing it is some kind of switch that is wearing out...
Any help you guys can give me would be great!
You may have worn ball joints in your front end, broken hubs, bad u-joints or even transfer case issues. Can you describe the noises?
I'm no gearhead, but it sounds like the gears are not meshing properly. I engaged it once when I was going about 50 mph and there was a very pronounced noise coming from the front end (middle) of the truck. I had to pull over...I live in Alaska, so not having 4wd can be dangerous. What do you think?
Could be front driveshaft u-joints, front axle u-joints, bearings, anything.
Try locking the hubs first and report back.
Has anyone had trouble with the shifter and the starter. What I mean to say is sometimes I have to lift the shifter to get it to turn over. I'm guessing it is a switch of some kind, is that problem common?
In case you missed it..
F350 Lariat, long bed crew cab with 70,000 miles.
Also, you can shift to N to start it.
