Fuel Gauge

My 1999 7.3 heavy duty 350's fuel guage is stuck on full. Is this a major or minor repair and what should I do?

Thanks in advance,

You are most likely going to have to drop the tank and take a look at the sending unit. You should check the wiring first to make sure that is in order.

Sounds like a perfect time to hutch/harpoon as well.

How long has it been there?
Mine stays there for 200miles sometimes if I fill it really full.
If it stays there there may be a short in the wire somewhere

I have to agree with powrstrkn'. I always fill up until I can see the diesel up in the neck with no foam, but my needle starts moving at around 110 miles.

The number of miles difference between mien and powrstrkn' may be a simple difference in mileage. I seem to be running around 13.5-14.0 due to my very short runs and hilly terrain and no mods done yet.

i fully agree with empiretc. we spent alot of pecos on our PSD's and its best to fix them right the first time if we can
drop the tank, replace the sender unit, and then do the hutch and harpoon mods.

here is a link to the mods from guzzels awesome site:

http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/hutch.html

ITP Diesel sells the kit and has a set of great online instructions on how to do the mod with their kit.

http://www.itpdiesel.com/store.php?c...on=show_detail

hope this helps. this is a great mod to keep our PSD's running strong.

thanks
