I am new to this and would like to know if the F-150 302 is the same as the mustang 302 other than the intake

Yes and No. Different intake as noted, but the HO also gets a healthy roller cam, and from '89 on uses a sequential mass air injection system versus the trucks speed density batch fire. The HOs from the pocket rocket era, '87-'92 also had forged pistons, which is a benefit for adding a blower or spray, but otherwise makes no performance difference. The block and heads are identical though, so you can make a truck motor into a HO by swapping on/in parts.

I think they also have different timings therefore different cams. I believe the crank is the same though.

Roller cams are diff.
You cannot have a steep climb on a solid cam as compared to a roller cam.
Running rollers on a solid cam has no benifit whatsoever.

The HO's have a different fireing order also. I think. not 100% sure on that one.

I meant firing order not timing. It shouldn't make a diffference as long as you keep the engines original injector harness and computer.

There may be differences in the serpintine belt and accessories. I know I had to specify which direction my fan rotated when replacing the fan clutch.

Not quite concerning the firing order. Non-HO 5.0 engines used the old 289/302 firing order while the HO 5.0 engines used the 351W firing order. 85-up 302 blocks do have provisions cast in for the roller cam/valvetrain if someone wants to adapt it in.
