Really, the only difference we can make on the dyno is to verify the A/F ratio. All the rest of the tweaks we make dont need to be done on a dyno for every vehicle. BamaChips has had quite a few F150s on the dyno, and MANY MANY mustangs with the new MAF system and Drive by wire, so they know what works, and how to tweak for different mods and situations.
Dont get me wrong, I dont want to come across as an EDGE basher. If you dont get the BamaChips Xcal2 for some reason, I would recommend the edge. You cannot argue that for the features, and the low price you can get at Discount Power Parts, its a great buy. I just like to let people know that there are other options out there. I was deep into new body F150 mods and remember when the edge tuner came out, it quickly became the most recommended tuner out there, and theres something to be said about that as well.
I just make my recommendations based on my own research and feedback from customers of mine who are using the edge. Reported problems, etc. Believe me, I would love to sell an edge myself, I would make more off an edge than I do on a BamaChips tuner, but I recommend the Xcal 2 because that is what I have found to be the best.
and for 399.00 thats a cutom tune for my truck.....are their different tunes for different grades of gas.....for instance if i'm running 87 octane will i have a tune for that and also a tune for high test....or is their only one tune and thats it....i know the edge you can turn off then click it up to level 3 if you want to then back down to off if you please...is this tuner able to adjust like that or is their only one tune and thats it....
maybe you misread, but DPP sells the edge for about $60 less than our tuner. They may also have a coupon code but im not sure.
As far as our tuner, it comes loaded with three custom tunes. We can make tunes for any octane, and any purpose. For instance, the three most common tunes are
87 Performance
High Octane Performance
High Octone Torque
The torque tune uses a little more fuel for more lower end grunt, good for towing and some people prefer it in day to day driving, but the performance tune is also a good day to day tune. The performance tunes will also increase your fuel mileage, if you can keep your foot off the pedal
so their is a tune for 87 octane, one for High Octane and one torque tune....and they also increse MPG....well, it's a win-win situation....i'm very interested in it....and you can pick between the different tunes and change it whenever you want to???
The Performance tune doubles as an economy tune. We could make different ones, but they would be so similar, that you may as well just choose another tune.
You can change between the tunes whenever you want, however, you cannot change them on the fly like the edge, you would have to turn the truck off and load another tune. Our tuners also take a little longer to load the tunes, since our tuners load the ENTIRE file, and not just bits and pieces like the edge.
Oh yes, the higher the octane, the more power we can get out of it by advancing the timing. Also, most of my customers report enough of a gain in fuel mileage using high octane over 87, that it more than makes up for the difference in cost of the fuel.
cool, sounds great...is the tuner compatable with differerent trucks....say i would sell my 02 and get a 06 in a couple years....would i be able to use the tuner on that truck also...
cool, so when i'm ready to get the tuner....should i PM you...should be relativly soon...i think i'm going to do a tune up on my truck....it's got about 80K on it now and i think i have either a bad COP or a bad plug....so, i want to do that first but then get the tuner.....thanks for all your information....glad i spoke with you...i would have gotten an edge but it seams like this is a better deal and is a little more versatile...
do the bamachips still have the 3 stage switch or do you have to reflash? when i had my '03 4.0 SOHC ranger i was gonna get one from another forum (ranger specific) that the bamachips owner Doug was on.
We dont use the 3 stage switch any more, mostly because of issues with physically installing a chip on the PCM. The flasher is a much more reliable means to do so, but you do have to stop and reflash it for every tune. Which site was it, RPS?
