I have a 1983 Ford F-150 300 inline 6 cylinder engine. It has the high output heater. This summer, I replaced the heater core. The temp guage gets to the "o" on "Normal". That is as high as it gets. Is my engine warming up enough? The problem is that my air temp on the heater/defroster is cool to only slightly warm. Is my thermostat probably stuck open or do I have another problem?
Grab a candy thermometer ....Start the truck up with the rad cap off.
Run the engine until normal operating temp.
Insert thermometer into hot coolant ...read temp.

Ford gauges have always for the most part .....been a joke.
Always Verify the actual situation before jumping to conclusions.
I will take a guess though and say you have a 180*F T-Stat in there.
I did some adjustment on the heater cable where it goes onto the heater under the hood. That seemed to help, but outside temps were warm. I'll heat it up when the temp drops tonight and see how things go. I'm guessing it may have the 180 F thermostat but am not sure.
