Serviced my 04 PS today. Oil/ filter/ air filter and fuel. 26000 miles. The last time the fuel filter was changed was about 14000 miles ago at the dealer around a year ago.
Haven't been back to the dealer since for any reason except to buy filters the other day..........from what I found today I definitly won't be going back to that dealer for service at least.
Changed the lower filter/seperator (all went good), moved to the secondary fuel filter. Removed cap pulled out filter and noticed something in the bottom of the housing. Pulled it out and it was the o-ring from the original filter and the more I got to looking at the filter I was putting in and the one I took out the little spline dealy was still on the mounting shaft from the original factory filter also that was changed at the dealer 14000 miles ago.
Guess it really didn't hurt anything, LUCKY
Just goes to show you, anybody can make a mistake, but the dealer tech should of know to check old filter when he took it out and didn't even inspect the housing when he did change it.
When I bought my "03, I took it in to the local dealer to have the oil and filters changed at 1000 miles. ( I didn't buy it there). The tech didn't now there were two fuel filters and wouldn't believe me when I told him there were. I canceled the service and haven't darkened their door again. If I have to have work done that I can't do myself, i drive 55 miles to a dealer that knows a little something about the trucks.
