I have a question concerning oil and filters. I am going to change my oil for the first time and am wondering whether to use motorcraft or napa for the change. Anyone have any problems with either or a preference. I know from previous posts not to use the "orange stuff." The vehicle is a 2000 2V V10 6.8L supercab short bed. Thanks in advance for the replies
Nothing wrong with NAPA filters. I use NAPA Gold on mine. Not too sure 'bout their oil though. Can't imagine it being bad...heck can't imagine much of any branded oil to be bad. Just change it every 5K.
Plus, there's not that big a problem with using FRAM. I use them on my wife's Chevy Avalanche. And anything else I want to get rid of.
No, seriously, Fram gets a bad rap and I think it is undeserving, Maybe in the past they earned it but I don't think anymore. They make their stuff to meet the minumum of needs. If you like to use stuff that meets the MINIMUM to save dough, no problemo. Just change it regularly. If you like over-built stuff like Purolator, NAPA Gold, Hastings, etc. etc. and sometimes may go past the 5K mark (like me sometimes) then use one of those.

IMHO...just keep Motorcraft and all will be good. The cost for MC at Wally is very reasonable (cheap). If MC is not available, then I usually go with Purolator One filter and Castro GTX oil.
If you like making your life easier...then I would recommend installing a Fumoto drain valve. Here is the link: http://www.fumotovalve.com/ If you go this route, then you only have to worry about the oil filter making a mess. Which is a reduction by 1/2.
I was doing some comparisons on the spec sheets of some of the semi-synthetics. Motocraft is good or at least ok, Kendall and 76 are now made by the same company and are very similar composition to each other and slightly better numbers than motocraft. But I paid $3.25 for the 76 and I think the kendall is $2.95.
