Popular Ford 4 Speed Tranny
As far as trucks goes the T98 granny low is probably most common. I'm building a 61 unibody using a 302 and the 4spd that was behind it in a mid 80s Mustung donor. It's an aluminum case top loader style but it looks like the five spd with the shifter mounted on the tail shaft and no external linkage. I have to make some changes to the shift lever to get it in front of the seat but other than that it should work well. I've seen this tranny used in some pretty potent Mustangs without problem so it should the handle a cruiser pickup no problem.

Why not use a Borg-warner T-5? It gives you overdrive for better highway cruising and you can run lower gears in the rearend. If you use the tailshaft from a S-10 (4.3 V6), the shifter is placed about a foot forward of the Mustang?T-bird T-5 shifter. That places it in front of the seat.

Thanks for the input guys but I have already started the changing of the mind already as I will probably another dozen times. I have decided to go with a C4 or a C6, a friend of mine is giving me his 302 that is currently in his 56 F100, there is one thing though that I am wondering about, it is suppose to be an aftermarket 302 and he said it does not have any casting numbers on it, it only has about 40K miles on it and it runs great, is it true that aftermarkets do not have casting numbers? This just seems a little strange, thanks for any input on this.
