balancing & porting

I am curious if the benifits of port matching intake to heads and balancing the reciprocating assembly would have the same benifits as would be seen on a gas engine?? does anyone do this??

porting dosnt make much of a differnce, unless your over the 500horse mark

balancing is about the same there very well balanced as they are just need to get them a little tighter when your spinnin it up to 4-5k rpms

the more air you can flow in, the more diesel you can dump in. The more air and diesel in = more flow out, which = more boost, which = more air in, which = more diesel in and on and on...
Im sure some good porting and bowl work would help you feel a difference. Unlike gas engines where you dont want to polish the intake ports/runners due to the added rough texture of the walls helping atomization, diesel fuel is not run through the ports/runners so polishing them could even help. Well thats just my take on the P&P.

Port matching the intakes to the heads wont do anything at all. Porting the heads there will be some gain, but no one has doen a back to back comparisong with stock heads then different levels of ported heads. I run stock heads (no porting) with beefed up valve springs and pushrods. Im somewhere between 550 and 600 rwhp on diesel only with the new setup. I did have the engine balanced when it was rebuilt and lemme tell you coupled with the flow balanced injectors its smooth running and extremely snappy. IMO balancing the rotating assembly is well worth the $$$
