I just finished a ball joint and seal install on my 2001 f250 4WD. While I was at it I cleaned and repacked the needle bearings in the hubs and cleaned and lubed my hub locks. While the truck was sill on jack stands without front tires on it I started it up to check the operation of the auto hub locks and found that the ABS light is now on. I read in the manual that under certain conditions this could occur until the truck was driven over 15mph for 10 seconds. It mentioned something to do with a self test. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Or have any idea of what might be causing issues with the abs. I also tried to scan for codes with my Superchips tunes and found none present.

Did you have the abs sensor and components where the go when you started the truck up? If not then the computer probably sensed that it wasn't right and that's why the light is on. I never experienced this so i don't know if it will reset itself or if the abs light needs to be reset some other way. Or if everything was where it belonged you might have something wrong and that's why it went off.
you didnt knock one of the front wheel speed sensors loose did you?
I don't think so, everything seems tight where the wires go to the hubs. Although I didn't take the rotors back off to check them yet. I did turn the key on a couple times to turn the wheels with the sensors unplugged, I was wondering if that possibily caused it. I did read my manual again about the computer resetting after beinging driven at 15 mph for 10 seconds and not finding any faults in the system. But that was for vehicles over 10,000 GVW So I am not too sure it applies.
After finishing my Ball-joints I noticed the ABS light on when backing out of the driveway. I went about 25 feet at 5mph and the light went out. I just figured it was resetting from having them disconnected at the plug behind the wheelwell. I had started it a couple times when I did the passenger side.

It seems that's all it was. Before I got past the neighbors house when I pulled out of the driveway it went out. I was planning to just leave the truck in the garage on jackstands until my front springs got here but I suppose the ABS light got the best of me. Thanks for the info
