Hey guys I just bought a 77" Highboy that has the 400M with an Edelbrock Performer intake & a Holley650. I am haveing trouble with the truck loading up real bad when in town. I have adjusted the carb as well as I can but still gasses you out. Any ideas other than make a paper weight out of the Holley. I also noticed it has a bad hesitation on a hard acceleration. Thanbks
Maybe a sticking float in the carb. also on the hesitation maybe the accelerator pump is bad or going? Sounds like a good clean up and rebuild would be in store, but aftermarket holleys are easy to get parts for so I wouldn't scrap it.
My bad I just always called it a 400 M. Thanks for the info I have a friend that has a new Edelbrock 600 that he will sell for $125 so I will probably get it & rebuild the Holley for a backup. This is my salt truck so I have to keep it running good.
Only the 351 cube displacement engines 351C/W/M used a letter designator.
Does your truck have a divorced or married transfer case?
Some Holley carbs had a power valve that would rupture quite easily. There is a retrofit blowout preventer kit available. The Edelbrock carb does not have the same weakness.
