I have a 2007 Super Duty, and I have seen some threads about people using the Silverstar bulbs. Do these make that much of a difference to warrant spending the $40+? I had a set of Silverstars on my 99 F-150 and was not impressed, but if they make a big difference on the Super Duty, I might look into it
I just put a set of these in my '06 SD. I am not tremendously impressed, although they are a bit brighter than stock. Are they worth $40? No, I don't think so.....but then again, I got mine for $19.99 at Autozone.
Yes, i do. bought it from summit before it was discontinued. That lets me run the diode in the blank passenger plug for the high and low beams together. So that might be generating some heat?
That'd be my guess... With both highs and lows on, you're running both filaments in the same volume of airspace inside the glass... It's a recipe for heat and melted bulbs. I'm not saying that's the definite cause, as this theory just popped into my head while reading, but my bulbs don't look like that and they are a least a year old...
Dp they really give out more light output or do they just look brighter?
I've tried a couple different coated bulbs, Nokya Arctic Whites & LUKS from Dfuser, and they actually seem to be worse than the stock bulbs. I even have the upgraded harness.
It really is a whiter light with a very very slight hint of blue but it seems less reflective overall and gives me slight eyestrain...
My silverstars are a whiter light than stock. I'd say they are brighter than stock. When I changed the bulbs, I did it in my garage, put one new bulb in, turned out the lights and turned them on to see if I could tell the difference. Sure enough, they were whiter and brighter... I shut the lights off, let them cool for a few, then swapped out the other bulb and haven't looked back. Don't be expecting an HID effect or anything, but they are brighter.
Upgraded headlight harness + upgraded bulbs will make a big difference in the output of the headlights.
I didn't care for the ultra-white look of the Silverstars, so I went with Xtravisions, which are the same bulb but w/out the blue coating on the ends like the Silverstars have.
