Howdy Y'all...
I have spent a couple of weeks checking this forum out, and after having to clear my browser history a few times because of not being a member- I decided to join.
A little about myself...
I have owned Ford, Dodge, and Chevy-
I like to say that i am not brand specific, just as long as it gets the job done- I believe there are bad apples in every bunch.
I currently own:
2005 Dodge 3500HD, HO cummins,6 spd w/ Gear Vendor.(14,000 miles)
2001 Chevy 2500HD, Duramax,Allison (85,000miles)
1999 Ford F450 7.3PS,6 spd. w/ Gear Vendor(160,000miles)
1995 Ford F350 7.3PS,5 spd. w/ Gear Vendor (139,000 miles)
1992 Ford F250 4.9, 5spd (170,000 miles)
Out of all of these- My favorite ride is my'92 F250 only because of the 300-6...It gets the less fuel mileage of all of my trucks, it needs a paint job, it lacks the torque of my others. My love for the F250 is profound even with the degenerate smog crap they have defiled it with from the factory.
At 16 yrs of age, my very first Truck was a 1976 F250 Ranger with a 300-6, granny 4 spd, 4.10. It was bought from the original owner for $2500 (in 1985). I baled hay all summer to payfor that truck. I got my first introduction to the things that women have (and use alot) that make or break a man's life..in the front seat of that old Ford. Yes sir, I saw every cow pasture, every mudhole (those got me grounded a few times) and every cruise spot (these also got me grounded alot) from behind the wheel of that old tan truck. I sold it in 1988 after my first year in the US Army, it had the front suspension rebuilt twice- 2 front clips replaced on it, a new top for the New Process 4spd.,and SEVERAL sets of tires during my four years of ownership... The mexican that bought it was going to use it for his roofing business- I saw that truck about 4 yrs ago, still be driven by the mexican, front tires leanin in, smoking to beat all get out. He had painted the hubcaps a brilliant blue ( I dont know why) and had a smile from ear to ear. The only thing I could say to him is: "Pedro, glad to see you still have her but just remember- I had her first... so how does it feel to be banging behind me?"
Anyways, thus is my attachment to the 300-6. I hope that i havent bored y'all to much, and dont plan to be a bother in this forum. However, I may ask questions from time to time. I am a self employed welder here in the Oil fields of East Texas and am gone alot.

This is my first question- As I have said I have a 1992 F250 with a 300-6, 5spd. What is the pros and cons on this particular year on the fuel management and is it MAF?
I dont pretend to be a mechanic...I am a welder/Fabricator

I salute you in your love for the i6. My first truck, which i still have, (although im much younger) is a 78 f150 4x4 4.9l np435 3.55s. I freakin love that truck. It will deffinatly pull anything behind it.

Welcome to our little family. This forum kicks all other forums asses, you will see what i mean.

Oh yeah, im also a big fan of your bad apple in every bunch philosophy. I salute you for that one as well.

Ok, As I have said in my introducion...I am gone alot, so now that I have a spare moment i have a few questions.
I have looked through alot of the threads to answer my own questions and there's alot of good info and opinions in them.
The questions I and observations I am about to post are on my 1992 F250 with the 300. I am not trying to hot rod it-just improve it some. I have some of the same issues that others have in here-

1) I understand that On my 92 F250 that I need to get the incoming air to flow better, and knowing that it's efi head isnt known for flow, I guess that I can change the filter, and intake tubes from filter box to TBs, right?
2) I have seen threads about changing TB to 302 or 351- anybody thats done this feel that it has made a difference?
3) I have also read about injectors and afpr. I want to hear from the people that have done this and what their long term view is of this mod since they have done it.
4) I plan change cam and gears- keep in mind, i am not trying to hot rod- just improve the characteristics in pulling and drivability. my truck could use a slight increase in power.

I have 170,000 miles on it- runs like a top, shakes a lil at idle-not too bad tho. but seems to be weak in the mid range and top end- it has a 5 spd, and is a heavy duty 3/4 ton I dont know the gear ratio. but it does have 305/70/16's on back.

I dont mean to stomp a dead dog in the ground by asking questions that have been posted on here numerous times before. So I have grouped it them all together to fit my situation and truck.
Thanks Y'all
