Brother in law has a 2001 f450 super duty 180 k miles auto tranny.
Transfer case went out yesterday while pulling 27 k pounds of equipment and trailer. The case has been rebuilt 1 time previously.
Question is this he has 225 series tires on front and 245 series tires on rearduals.
Is this the likely reason it went out.
Did not break the case but did seem to break a chain.
Locking hubs were not engaged.
Thanks
JOHN

That is probably the root cause for the failure. Maybe he put in 4X4, at a previous date and caused the damage then, and pulling 27K amplified the damage causing failure. Why isn't he running the same size tires, front and rear? ALWAYS RUN THE SAME SIZE FRONT AND REAR!
