When you run the wire from the battery make sure to put a circuit breaker or fuse in the line. Something like the 100A with the red button #46985:

For the length I would use #4 AWG wire.

Thanks guys!! I'm heading to the store shortly to get some wire. I still have the circuit breaker that came with the winch(never used it) but I will try to get a better one.

I will also get my trailer harness installed(4 wire) and cap the other wires.

Thanks again guys!

Now though, I do want to get to the bottom of why this wire is powered all the time if it's not supposed to be. I could see this wire, somehow, draining my batt down in the future and at the wrong time.
I am sure you will find someone modified the wiring up front. You never know, they may have come on FTE somewhere and got the info to modify it. They may have had an enclosed trailer with a domelight, and wanted the light to work without turning the key on in the truck.

People are always changing something around to suit their own needs.

Take a look at where the TT bat. charge relay should be and see if there is a jumper wire in it's place. That would keep that circuit hot all the time. If there is a jumper, remove it and replace the relay. Also check the fuse and make sure that it's not jumpered or oversized.
Like Dave said above, lots of guys do these mods (right or wrong) to have full time power at the TT plug.
