Towing capacity question

I am contemplating buying a Ranger S-cab 4x4 with the 4.0/auto. What is the towing capacity with various years and gear ratios. I am looking from '93 to about '99. Any years I should stay away from. I would prefer the 4 door but have found very few with nice seats like it seems more of the '93-'95's have. Thanks.

The 4-Dr didn't come along until 1998.

You may try looking in various online copies of owners manuals. Google "Ford Fleet Owners Manuals," and it should be the first or second link.

I my experaince, the 4x4 ranger with an auto is not a relible combination for a lot of towing. I worked for Mazda roadside assistance at a call center for a couple years back in 2001-2003, and we got tons of calls about the b series 4x4 auto prematurely going out. About half the guys were toing a trailer at the time thier trans went out. Maybe the older truck are better then the new ones, but i personally dont recommend getting a newer 4x4.
If you are going to be doing a lot of towing, get a 4.0 with a stick, and the 4x4 is just going to bog you down more, so if you dont need it that bad i would go with a 2wd.
