Filled up today and went to reset the mpg/miles to empty (I know it's inaccurate, just habit!) I had the key in the "on" positon and hit both of the overhead consol buttons. Instead of just resetting, the display read "Zone" and when I hit the buttons individually it cycled from Zone 1 to Zone 9. I turned the key off, started the truck, and hit the buttons again and the display went back to normal
What did I get into??? What does this programming do? What is Zone 1 - Zone 9? Couldn't find anything in the owners manual and I tried doing a search here and couldn't find anything.
Correct, the zones are for your compass. Depending on where you are in the US, there are several different zones it could be. Your manual may have the zone map in it, but here's a link that has a zone map on it. Look at the picture in the lower right hand corner to determine your zone. I know it's not for our trucks, but the zones will be the same. http://www.drivesubaru.com/SubaruDri.../DimInstr2.pdf
It's all covered in the Owner's Manual in the glove box.

Actually... it's not. Or if it is, I missed it. Like I said in my previous post I checked there first. That's why I came to this site - to get some help. Not a "Duh, I can't believe you wasted my time" comment.
Most every post I read here has lots of good information, and most of the members are great and take the time to answer any question no matter how insignificant. There's a lot to know about these trucks and engines -expecially for anyone who's never owned one before.
I'm sorry you wasted your time responding to my post. I'm also sorry I read your response.
Derron, I think you took Pop's post the wrong way. Knowing Pop, he wouldn't post something to make a "duh" comment. I think he was genuinely trying to help.
There is a lot to learn about these trucks, and we're definately here to help.
I don't know what year your truck is, so the manual may have changed. But I checked my owner's manual, looked in the index under Compass, and found where it's in my owners manual. I think you may have missed it, unless they for some reason took it out entirely.
Here's a scan of the pages in the manual, so you can see how to properly adjust and calibrate it. Click the little pic to go to my webshots where you can see the full size version.

Sorry, really, really bad day at work and it's still on my mind.
I do appreciate all the knowledge on the site. Sometime reading posts on the internet it's hard to "read" what a message really says. I'm sorry if I took it the wrong way.
I should have gone to your profile first to see what your truck is. The Superduty owner's manuals do cover setting the compass' magnetic variation, but I have not ever looked at a F-150's manual, so I should not have been so short with my answer. I'm not sure how much the stuff here will apply to your F-150. Of course, if you now have changed to a Superduty, you may want to update your profile.
I apologize for appearing flippant. That's not the nature of this forum at all, and I sure don't want to make it look that way to newcomers. Welcome aboard.
