Wiring harness question
I recently purchased a two-axle car trailer for real short money and just completed rewiring it. All lights are working, and function when they should, when I test them on a 12V power source.
When I hook them up to both of our vehicles ('01 F-150, '00 Expedition) the stop and turn lights work great, but none of the running or tail lights illuminate at all.
As I said, they work great when I connect that terminal to a 12V source, so I checked the harness plug on both vehicles. Neither rig's second pin from the left (tail/running/clearance lights) will put out any voltage. (Yes, I remembered to turn the headlights on!)
Is there something immediate I should check on both vehicles that might have caused this? A fuse that directly protects that circuit? Or do the factory terminals commonly corrode away and lose their connection?
What would be the first thing to check?
Thanks!
Mine had blown due to a chaffed wire on the trailer grounding out. Once I found and fixed all was good.
You may want to also check inside the back of the connection at the bumper on the truck. May have some corrosion starting.
On the F-150 I found one blown fuse. Replaced it and I get 12V to the pin!
On the Expy, no blown fuse, but the #2 terminal on the harness plug is very corroded. Probably the problem lies there. I'll look into it later in the week.
Thanks!
