I have a 74 f-100 i traded a 89 ford bronco for. Now i took it out in the woods and engaged the 4WD and it worked like a dream. It has Manual locking hubs and when i unlocked the hubs and tried to put it in 2WD it won't disengage. The hi-lo mechanism is different for me being an older vehicle. I am used to locking the hubs, and switching from 2wd, 4hi, N, or 4lo. Now on the f-100 it says lock lo, N, lock hi. Can't figure out where 2wd is at? or how to disengage 4WD?? Be nice now people im a young ford lover, any suggestions??
That sounds like a full time 4wd truck that has had unlocking hubs installed. The lock positions should lock the transfer case like a locking differential. So say the front wheels have no traction, with the lock position, power will be transferred to the rear axle as well as the front. I'm not sure how you would have to set the transfer case to run in 2wd.
Well, if you have a full-time t-case, you're pretty much in 4wd all the time, but you shouldn't hqave full-time, you have locking hubs, my '79 Bronco i sold was full-time 4WD, but I converted the t-case to part-time with locking hubs, but when it had full-time 4WD, it was all locked in, all I had to do is shift into 4wd.
Well guys Thanx for all your input, but i figured out my problem. My uncle who works as logging mechanic, and praise him, he's a FORD MAN!! It's some teeth are missing inside my transfer case to my 2WD gear, so it is locked in it but it's not grabing. Thanx a lot guyz.
I too am new to Fords. And I am going all out. ) In two weeks time I have gone from no Fords to 3 Fords. ) Didn't plan it that way, it sort of just happened. The only one missing from my signature is the one my brother is giving me (87 Ranger 2wd, 2.3L) as I won't be able to get it until March after the winter weather lets up.
