my gauge started working after a had a code reader hooked up and turned the key off and on, i dont know if that did anything to fix it . thats just what i remember doing before it started working again, maybe it just started working again on its own
The wire is grounded between sender and gauge. If you remove the wire from the tank sender, the gauge should deflect to the full side, unless of course the gauge is bad.
A bad sender in the tank.
A bad gauge.
Or, it could be a problem common with Explorers. The float gets a hole in it, and will no longer float on top of the gas. jd
I took a very hard corner in my 1993 and my gauge quit working. I pulled the dash and that part of it is good. So what could be my other issues? I took a trip awhile back and halfway through it it started working again until I shut the truck off to get gas then it reverted back to E again any thoughts?
I've read this fuel guage problem can be caued by corrosion of the silver contact type sending unts & that corrosion is caused by sulphur in the fuel.
For instance, Shell & it's affiliates let some high sulphur fuel get to market back in 2004-2005 & wiped out a bunch of fuel pumps & the silver contact type sending units.
So maybe there is a possibility you've gotten a load of gas with higher than normal sulphur content & it's done some mischief.
Chevron now is claiming it's "Techron Concentrate Plus" will clean up & prevent this corosion & restore the sending units function.
Seems to me if you think that might be your problem, it's worth a try.
If it doesn't fix the gas gauge, at least your intake side & combustion chamber will be "Spring" cleaned!!!! lol
If it does work, it could save some time, aggrivation & bucks & I see by last weeks flyer that Advance Auto has Techron on a two for one price, so thats 50% off, maybe worth a try!!!!????
Think I'm gonna try it in my old 78 Merc, as it's sending unit gets on the fritz now & then!!!!
Did anyone try the Chevron Techron Concentrate PLus to correct this problem? My '02's gas gauge is reading +1/4 tank and I'm getting tired of it! I occasionally use Shell gasoline, so...
