govenor?
hey guys...new to the forum. not trying to sound like a ridiculous n00b, but i read around the forum a little and i haven't found the answer to my question. I have a '01 5.4L F-150. i was wondering if there was a way to cut off the govenor. My car governs out at 106....i was able to cut it off by throwing a toggle switch into one of the wires to the pcm. I went up against a Mustang last night and i would have beat it, but the govenor kicked in a little less than 110 . can i hook it up with something like in my car, or will it have to be chipped to cut off the govenor?
Thanks

Well...I'd say you were pretty dumb for doing that, a truck shouldn't be running more than the governer without some serious modifications, plus it should be on a track.
You'll need a chip to remove the governer though.

figured there would be some flaming since it was on the street...Open country roads are tempting though
...lol
you don't think she can handle more than the govenor?

I'll give you that, open country roads are tempting. Been there done that.
It can physically handle more than that. It's just a matter of stability. Running that fast, a truck is going to roll if the driver loses control.
As for your switch on your previous car...that's an interesting concept and one I haven't heard before. I would imagine you could rig a switch into the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire to tell the truck you were doing zero, but your speedo would not register and if it's an auto transmission, it may try and downshift. Not something I would recommend, either way. If you're going to do it, do it right and get the chip.

a chip sounds like the way to go...on my car there is a specific wire for the govenor. i believe it goes off the speedo, but the speedo still works when its cut off. i might do some reading and see if it can be done. maybe it can, if i try and it works i'll post pics...thanks man
