I have 2002 fordf-1505.4ltr.starts missing when engine gets warm, only has 82000 miles scanner said #3 cylinder missfire which one would be #3,do you think it would be a spark plug or coil problem??
It is the second one from the firewall on the passenger side. It isn't too hard to get to. If you are still using the original plugs then start with changing them. Most of them are fairly easy to get to with swivels and extensions but the coil screw on cylinder 7 is a real PIA!!! BTW, If you can, use compressed air to blow all the crap out of the spark plugs tubes before you remove the plugs.
If you change all the plugs and it is still mifiring then change the coil on the problem cylinder next.
I agree with beeker, though when you change your plugs, move the cop on cylinder 3 to cylinder 1. That way if the misfire changes to cyl 1 you know that coil is bad, and when you go to change it it will be easier than getting to cyl 3.
You probably have a cracked coil due to dripping coolant from the heater hose clamp directly above it. This was the subject of a TSB a while back. Replace the clamp with a new worm gear clamp and change the coil pack.
I have the same problem with my 2002 F150 5.4 with 120,000 kms. It starts fine, runs good for 10 minutes, then starts to missfire for another 10 minutes or so, after which it runs fine again. A couple of days ago, the same thing happened, and when it settled down, I drove 10 hours straight at an average of 120 kms per hour without problem (gas mileage is not affected). Whatever the problem is, I had trouble maintaining 60 kms/h when it was acting up.
