Is this truck worth buying?

A Ford F250 4X4 170000 miles. new transmission 2000 miles on transmission. 460 cu in. the guy is asking $3500 for it

Sure...

But a few things I suggest.

Search here for any threads regarding the purchase of one of these for tips about what to look out for.

Check newspapers or other vehicle ads for pricing in your area to try and determine an average value. It's hard for us to determine the value of a vehicle as that varies by geographic location.

They're great trucks but be prepared for the 10 or less mpg of a 460/heavy truck.

I also suggest having a mechanic check out the vehicle and get a decent idea of what kind of shape it is in. Maybe a compression and oil pressure test of the engine to confirm it's condition.

170k miles is quite a few...the motor could be in great shape or in poor shape...who knows. My 180k mi 351 runs great but that 460 may or may not.

for a 95 that sounds like a good price.

Offer him A thousand back of his asking price ( 2500 bucks ) in order to start the haggling process. Thats a reasonable starting point and you might pick it up for something less then the advertised 3500 bucks
