New member here. Hello to all. I have a 1964 F100 short-bed. I am looking for some advice on how to clean my perforated headliner? What do I clean it with? It's in good shape, but needs cleaning. And can it be painted?? Thanks for your help.
What does it have on it, grease or dirt/dust? Grease will be a pain in the you know what. Depending on the age of the head liner you wont be able to scrub it without damaging it to get the grease out. To get dust/dirt use an old worn out tooth brush or foxtail to loosed it up then hit it with a vacum cleaner with the crush attachment. Painting it is totally up to you. Personally I would suggest going to Jo Ann Farbic to see what kind of covering you could use to stick on it.
Welcome to FTE; this is the best one stop truck shop avaiable. As airharley mention understanding the product materials of your headliner is what's going to allow you to clean it without damaging it. If its stain then lightly clean and either repaint or cover with headliner material etc. Mine in my 65 had a slightly small hole to where a field mouse live and was chewing it alittle at a time, I just use a damp rag and wipe my clean of dust etc , and then cover it with headliner material. Keep in mind 65 was soild cardboard and not perforated. Others will chime in with even more advice.
Again Welcome.
Given the price of a new one...I'd be careful w/ the one you've got. If it's not too dirty, I'd say live with it (and consider the patina to be part of the charm of these classics). Keep driving, don't look up, and you'll be happy.
Probably several of us are envious of you that you even HAVE a headliner!
hey hombre292,
as you're a newcomer, it sounds like the best way for you to fit in with the rest of us is to REMOVE your headliner and go with the bare-metal look. But rather than throw it away, you could DONATE it to one of us.
