I havn't noticed a thickness difference...

But the front nose of the framerails are different, because of the leaf spring vs coil spring setups.

I know the older ('67-72) trucks have quite a bit of frame thickness difference (F-100 vs. F-250/F350).
dunno about the newer stuff.

There is definitely a strength difference. I don't know if there is a visible difference or not though.

Visibly they are not different. I looked at one of my workers trucks and mine to see what made his so damn special like he thought it was, and wouldnt stop talking about it. I shut him up nicely and politely when I rolled up to the shop in my 92 after keeping it out of sight fixing it for a while. Check the signature for specs.

As for strength differences, i am not so sure that there is a difference. The GVWR that determines 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton etc. is determined from all of the aspects of the truck. Bigger brakes, bigger diffs, bigger motor, beefier tranny, and stronger suspension are the major roles in that calculation. And for thickness, they both seem to be the same from the tape measure, as well as depth and length of flanges. Also there arent any more crossmembers in a 3/4ton as a 1/2 ton.

I always understood 1/2tons and 3/4 tons to be similar. and 1 ton's to usually be diff frame.

Remember 150 is not a 1/2 ton. =P heavy half ton.
Whatever that means. haha.

1/2, 3/4 and 1-ton are just carryover names from long ago. They used to actually refer to hauling capacity. Now they are just names, with 1/2 tons able to haul 1500-2000 lbs. (My '90 hauled 1500 lbs.: GVWR minus measured curb weight) and modern 1-tons able to haul upwards of 5000 lbs., depending on their configuration.

Back in 1983 when I bough a new F150 I ask at the Ford Dealership (Blue Springs Ford) what the difference was between the F100 and the F150 (they sold both that year).
The Guy from the Ford motor company (they were having a Ford Co. special sale) said that in order to get around some of the pollution requirements that Ford came out with the Heavy Half Ton (F150) and it was rated to carry more than a Half Ton (F100).
