Lesson learned chasing crickets

For a couple of years now, I've been searching hi and lo on the left front of my Bronco, for this annoying noise that sounds like crickets. It only sounded when I was moving. I had pretty much given up. I had convinced myself that it was probably a screw on the side panel that I couldn't get at.
Well, guess what. Today I needed to refill the washer fluid. I was up on my ladder (funny I know, but truck is really high up) and I put my hand on the reservoir to steady myself. I got so excited when I heard that sound! Come to find out the sound was coming from the hoods metal prop bar. The very end of it was not seated into the holder and thus it rubbed metal against metal whenever the truck was moving. I never use the thing because the hood springs are so stiff that they hold the hood up fine. It must have happened at some point when I took the truck to the mechanics for something.
Just goes to show you that when your expecting for some drastic prognosis, it sometimes is something so simple.
Thought I would share my happiness. One less thing to worry about

and you signature proves that a woman CAN fix her own truck.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. A woman must do what he can't.

There is a metal prop bar? Are you sure it is not the metal bar for cranking the jack when you need to change a tire?

I don't remember seeing a hood prop.

Either way, congrats...I guess.

look Matt. the fact that robin found it all by herself is what matters. not that she misidentified the offending noise making part.

so it would be appreciated if you would cut her some slack.

but only this one time.

It might matter if she wants to change a flat tire and can't find the doggone jack handle under the hood....

So that's what's it called?!
And really. I was ecstatic to find the noise culprit. I was beginning to worry the neighbors because I was spending way too much time crawling around underneath my truck.
I'll have you know that I personally removed the stock jack from under the hood, handle and all. It was just a paper weight anyways, and useless for my big ole truck. I have a nice shiney red Hi-lift in case if I ever need to lift her up. And I'm so happy to know that I have a bunch of strong guys to help me out if I ever need a hand.

nah robin, you most likely removed the pos jack and the lug wrench. that long thin funny looking rod that is about 3/8 inch round is actually used as a crank handle with the stock jack.
