In theory, the US doing so and being a leader makes the world a better place. At least our clean air dilutes the bad and don't forget we have LA, NYC and Phx to make up for it.
You know Ford would have redesined the Ranger by now if there finances would have been in better order. But to redesin avehicle cost big bucks. An if you do that an it doesnt sell it could be very bad news. I think industry wide small truck sales are down not just for ford but everyone else. Chevy redesigned there small trucks a couple off years ago. Initially they had a sales surge but as off late there sales have dropped as well. I think one thing holding small trucks back as far as sales go is there mileage isnt to great. A small truck likie a ranger should get 25-30 MPG but they dont get anything that close. My PSD will get as good as mileage as a ranger. I Ford will redesign the ranger but I couldnt tell youwhen. The Ranger has a a huge fan base an if Ford redesigns it it will be an immediate hit.
Fords main concern is selling F-series trruck especially for the bottom line. Sorry to say trucks is the main bread an butter off the Big 3. Since combined that amounts to 2 and a half million trucks a year. I hope the Ranger continues on though. The toughest little truck ever made.
I wasn't sure about Mexico. "MEXICO", with the exchange rate and closeness, whats to keeps us from buing one and driving it a cross the border, is it illegal to do that or something ?
If we went to Mexico and bought the "limited" version Ranger (fully loaded two-tone) it would cost us about $21K. The down side according to what I see is that it's only offered in a 2.3L and by the look of the power specs it's not a diesel.

I'm not really following here Bart. How did we get to ordering? I was talking about what was on the lot that compaired fairly well for options.
Ford can't aford not redesign vehicles because they have money problems, or they might as well quit now. I t takes money to make money, they no this. All truck and suv sales are down, not just small trucks. If gas prices would stablize, it would help a cross the board. Ford say's all thier vehicle lines will be changed or upgraded by the end of 2010, so something is going to happen to the ranger.
I must addmitt, thats one sharp truck, throw on a set of roof rails, it would be perfect, It's identical to our rabger except for the crewcab. They could easy enough have a crewcab here by 08, there's no design work involved, they allready have the design. They could even import that one, the body anyway. They imported the escort zx2's from mexico. I after seeing the mexican ranger, I believe it's very feasable to have a crewcab shortly as truck trend has reported, even by 08 as MT believes.
I don't even need a crewcab and I would be tempted to buy one, "not really", then I would have to start all over with the mods ha ha. It sure does look cool. I don't care how usable the bed is or not, I just like the looks. I know ford could boost ranger sells if they would build that here, there's no dout in my mind.

I was stating that for people to get a crew cab Ranger that was significantly less expensive than a Sport Trac, that they'd most likely have to order one. Its my experience, both as a consumer and a former dealership employee, that dealerships don't keep very many stripped base level vehicles on the lot. Once you start tossing in the stuff people generally want, plus Ford's mandatory "options" you're probably going to get close to a Sport Trac price.

i agree - most people that are buying a 4-door truck are doing so for convenience of 4 doors and the occasional need of the bed. most of those people want all the fancy options...turning it into a $30,000 suv with a bed. like everyone above me has said. if you want a truck, buy the reg cab truck. OPTIONS are never a bad thing to give people.
IDK guys, I mean I have a lot of options on my colorado and I paid around $24K. I don't think it would be hard for Ford to sell a well equiped quad cab ranger for about the same. That's still a far cry from a $30K suv.
It is a very interesting tread. I bought my Mazda B4000, standard 4 years ago and more than satisfied of it. It will turn 200 000 km sometimes this week. I did everything with it. Helped me to move (2 times 1000 km with a double axes trailer and bed loaded) and helped to renovate our new house, that I just finish (2 *x 20 packages of shingles + I don`t know how many 4x8 dry walls and plywoods). Adding to that, I use my truck for travel to work and doing home visit where winter can be very cold and icy / snow. In couple years, we want to have 2 kids and a dog. A 6 foot bed truck with 4 doors (by the way offered by a Toyota Tacoma, automatic transmission), will be more than welcome. Ford may have to change his frame, but it will be worth it, as long they keep it very strong. If I want a 4 foot bed with 4 doors, I will buy a regular SUV not a pick-up truck. I don't understand why offering a ford explorer with half of the roof gone... Even on my truck I add a cab on my bed (that I can remove anytime) because is so much more practical. I really like my truck and I just hope that Ford will improve it and keeping his reliabilty and his durability as good as is now.
You can't tell me that Ford wouldn't rule the quad cab mini market with this............
