i heard that the exhaust backpressure sensor can make the engine fluctuate (surging) well mine does and also when cold when you step on it, it bogs down and then all of a sudden it takes off and then it surges off and on till warmed up. i also heard that when you change gears or tire size about resetting computer. well i havent done that i didnt know it was manditory that you need to do. can anyone give me feedback

that is what it does till it warms up..it does stop after it warms up right??
the only down fall for a bigger tire swap or changing gears is the speedo wont be right till you reprogram the computer depending on how big a gear change you did..
your oil temp has to be up to i think 131 and coolent up to i think 170..
the EBPS is located right below the fuel filter behind the belt.one wire going in the top with a steel line coming out the bottom...the steel line go's to the passenger side exhaust manifold.tward the front of the truck..i can see mine by looking in front of the front tire..if you think that is pluged take the steel line off and spray it down with break cleaner and run a wire or something through the line to get the soot out..be carful not to break the sencor (140 doller part) take it out and clean just the hole where the steel line go's into it..goood luck my friend..
even when i leave it warm up 15 mins before i leave it still does it
Take your program out and return to stock. My 03 when cold is VERY tempermental concerning the EBPV. I've be fighting the same thing and have removed the program and as cold as it has been here (7 above yesterday), it has ran "flawlessly" for the last week. I think I will unplug mine if I put the program back in.
Just as a side note, have put the program in the 02 during the winter cold and maybe a little hesitation at first but nothing like the 03.
Buy a Superlift Truspeed from www.Dieselsite.com, it's hard to find on their site, so just search in their search box for it. Mine came yesterday, and after getting a ticket last night (ironic), i am going to try to install it today.
i stole this pic from strokin..this is where the steel tube go's into the exhaust...i re checked my info and the oil has to be up to 131 befor the EBPV opens...my truck idels for a bout 15 minutes every morning..we have been down in the 10's and 20's for over a month...ill get about 10 miles down the road till things are warm enouph to shut off the cold start function..
