malfunctioning speed sensor?

Yes, I did post previously but now that I bought and installed new speed sensor {located on rear differential} it worked meaning speedo and odometer worked as well as tranny shifted smooth for about 4 days then it stopped. What is the likelyhood that it is defective or what else can it be? When the speedo works all is great but when it doesn't tranny shifts sloppily. Please help my truck as my Husband is starting to believe it should be sold and replaced with a Izuzu Rodeo. It has had it's little problems but it is MY FORD I have always loved my Fords. He is believing in Found on Road Dead

It is possible that you have steel bits in your rear carrier oil that is contaminating and sticking to the speed sensor on the carrier.
Your old one may have worked if you had stuff stuck to it and wiped it off.
If this is true you will have to change your rear carrier oil and wipe it out the best you can. You may also have something going out in your rear carrier that needs replacing. Your differential and rear wheel bearings are inside of your rear carrier.
